The Best Events for Australian Online Retailers and eCommerce Professionals
The eCommerce industry is constantly evolving, which is why it is so important for online retailers to stay up to date through learning and education. While following industry leaders via social media and blogs can offer quick insight, nothing beats the face-to-face learning opportunities that eCommerce events offer.
These are the best online retail events and conferences in Australia, as well as smaller networking meetups and awards. We fully support and regularly attend the below events because they offer real benefits and lessons to online retailers of all sizes.
1—3 May, 2017
An invitation-only event, iMedia Online Retail Summit is an excellent opportunity for 120 senior online retail marketing executives to gather, network, and learn. Designed to foster peer learning and debate, iMedia Online Retail Summit works hard to create a forum for discussion and relationship building.
iMedia Online Retail Summit focuses heavily on interactive roundtables, networking dinners and events, as well as keynotes and breakout sessions from leading international and local online retail experts.
This year’s theme is Moving from Mobile First to Mobile Only, exploring how online retailers can adapt their digital presence to a new reality where a small screen is the first and final touchpoint.

24—26 May, 2017
We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention our own event, Retail Global Gold Coast. Designed for online retailers of all sizes, from individual eBay sellers to multi-million dollar brands, Retail Global offers a series of workshops, classroom-style speaker sessions, and keynotes from industry leaders. Retail Global breaks out its content into different learning tracks to appeal to retailers of every role and customer base, all designed to offer takeaway lessons and actionable tips that can be implemented in your own business.
This year, Retail Global Gold Coast has a special focus on helping Australian eCommerce adapt to Amazon. Amazon’s arrival in Australia will transform the online retail industry and offers retailers of every size the opportunity to expand and reach new customer bases like never before.
26—27 July, 2017
With a focus on technology, disruptive retail models, and an extensive exhibition, Online Retailer Sydney offers Australian eCommerce retailers a dynamic learning opportunity right in Sydney.
After nine years of operation, Online Retailer Sydney offers a smooth visitor experience with interesting, qualified speakers. Online retailers who want to learn about trends in retail technology, build relationships with other retail professionals, and take home inspiration and knowledge to fuel their coming year should definitely attend. Online Retail Industry Awards
No discussion of the best events for Australian eCommerce professionals would be complete without a mention of industry awards. At Retail Global, we are particularly impressed by the professionalism and quality of the All Star Bash and ORIAS Online Retail Awards.
The All Star Bash by Power Retail is an enormously enjoyable event for professionals in the online retail space. Held just last month, the All Star Bash offers not only an enjoyable night of dancing, dinner, and entertainment, but recognition for the leadership, innovation, and accomplishments in the eCommerce space.
Likewise, the ORIAS or Online Retail Industry Awards, hosted by Online Retailer, offer another opportunity to recognise the hard work and contributions by online retailers across Australasia. The ORIAS offer an evening that acknowledges the successes and innovations of large retailers and entrepreneurs alike. Retail Global’s own Phil Leahy was recognised in 2013 at the ORIAS, and it is an event that we make sure to attend every year.
You can learn more about the ORIAS at their site here.
Monthly and Quarterly Free Australian eCommerce Events
The Digital Business Event Series
Located in Melbourne, the Digital Business Event Series offers a free networking and learning opportunity for Australian eCommerce professionals. Unlike larger expos, events, and shows, the Digital Business Event Series is a smaller operation that meets regularly to discuss trends and lessons from online retail and marketing. Featuring different experts and offering intimate discussion and networking opportunities, the Digital Business Event Series offers online retailers both peer-to-peer learning opportunities as well as more formal lessons. We at Retail Global regularly attend and especially enjoy the Digital Business Event Series because it focuses on building a strong community rather than selling a product or service.

Meetups for Australian Online Retailers
One of our primary goals as both online retailers and eCommerce event hosts is to foster a strong community of eCommerce professionals. That’s why we’ve designed Retail Global to offer unparalleled networking opportunities and why we vet our speakers to ensure our attendees leave with actionable tips and lessons to improve their sales and operations. Since Retail Global only happens twice a year, we have also created and sponsor local ShopTalk Meetups to further the conversation all year long.
The ShopTalk Meetups for online retailers are held quarterly (dates vary by location) and offer attendees a free opportunity to learn from a featured industry expert panel and meet their peers. The evening begins with drinks and hors d’oeuvres, then segues into the industry panel with follow-up audience Q&A and wraps up with another cocktail hour.
You can learn more about your local ShopTalk Meetup and register for the next event on its Meetup page.
