Alastair MacGibbon is Australia’s leading expert on cyber security, cyber crime and online safety. MacGibbon has held a series of senior Government and corporate roles, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s Special Adviser on Cyber Security.
He launched Australia’s eSafety Office, led the Australian Cyber Security Centre and implemented the Australian Government’s Cyber Security Strategy as the National Cyber Security Adviser.
MacGibbon is credited with bringing greater attention to the danger of malicious cyber activities by criminals and foreign governments.
He has dedicated much of his career to public service and began work as a Federal Agent with the Australian Federal Police where he worked for 15 years. During his last assignment with the AFP he founded the Australian High Tech Crime Centre.
MacGibbon also spent 11 years out of government, working at eBay, Dimension Data (now NTT), ran his own consultancy, established the Centre for Internet Safety at the University of Canberra, and was the founding CEO of CREST Australia.
MacGibbon is now Chief Strategy Officer of CyberCX, Australia’s largest cyber security firm.
